Roads often need resurfacing after years of use and tens of thousands of vehicles driving on them. R&R Contracting’s road resurfacing labor crews rejuvenate asphalt roads by expertly milling off the top layer of asphalt pavement and overlaying it with fresh asphalt. This provides a safer, more enjoyable driving experience while keeping road and highway projects moving forward.

The Mill and Overlay Process

Typically, our highway maintenance workers start by milling a half inch to two inches of asphalt off the top of the road section we’re overlaying. We move the millings off site and thoroughly clean debris and excess materials off the roadway.

The next step is placing tack oil on the work surface. This special adhesive will allow the new asphalt to bind with the road.

Hot mix asphalt is brought to the job site in a shuttle buggy that continues to mix the asphalt to keep it from separating. We then pour the mixture into an asphalt paving machine.

Our pavement overlay crews spread the hot asphalt neatly and evenly with a vibrating screen. We use heavy steel rollers to press down and compact the asphalt, ensuring that the density is correct and that the finish is smooth and unbroken.
