Pipe Bursting
Trenchless sewer replacement doesn't always mean open-cut work. Pipe bursting pulls a bursting tool with an expandable blade or cone-shaped head through the old pipe. As the head splits and pushes the old material outward, new pipe follows directly behind it and takes its place, pulled through in one continuous run.
It's effective on PVC, ductile iron, clay, and non-reinforced concrete. Above-ground disruption is minimal, which is the main reason it costs less than a standard trench replacement in most cases. The method suits pipe diameters from 6 to 48 inches, and a crew can upsize the new pipe to add capacity the old line never had. Done right, it also closes off the small gaps and cracks that let groundwater infiltrate an aging line. A new pipe installed this way should run up to 50 years.
Sewer Construction
Building or rebuilding a commercial sewer system is a longer list of trades than the pipe itself. Our subcontracted crews handle:

How long does a pipe-burst replacement line last?
Up to 50 years, assuming the new pipe and the install both meet spec.
What pipe sizes can be replaced with pipe bursting?
Diameters from 6 to 48 inches. Outside that range, the method usually isn't the right fit and the job goes back to open-cut or another trenchless option.
Is pipe bursting cheaper than digging up the old line?
Usually, yes. Because the disturbance stays mostly underground and confined to the pull path, pipe bursting contractors typically price the job below a comparable open-cut trench replacement. The savings come almost entirely from the restoration work an open-cut job would otherwise require.
